Richard Long

Is an English sculptor and one of the best known British land artists. Long is the only artist to be shortlisted for the Turner Prize four times.
Long works with indigenous materials, such as stone, wood and mud. Stone is one of the earliest material used by man to fashion tools; and one of his preferred materials.
From 1981 he also changed to the terms of painting by applying mud in a very liquid state by hand to a wall in similar patterns, establishing a link between the primal gesture of the hand-print and the formal elegance of its display.
