Update Five

Now we had our renders, the final stage of the Special FX project could be passed back over to me and I could crack on with the post-processing. Firstly, before anything, I needed to create an intro and outro for the film as we had a spare 15 seconds to fill. This would simply say the assessment task name and the who was in the group.

Next I wanted to focus on the water scene, as this was potentially our best scene if I could do it right and worst if I did it wrong. Will had created a 3D mesh in RealFlow that gave the impression of a crown style drop that matched our object emerging from the water, which looked awesome but didn’t naturally fit into the scene. What I had to do was download some stock footage of water splashes and ripples, that could then be masked around the RealFlow mesh and actually made the water appear to be the same as the river.

Then all that was really left to do was masking out shadows that shouldn’t be there, doing a simple colour correction and adding some broadcast bars to tidy it up

As each shot had been ramping up in visual intensity, for the final one I wanted to add a brief glimpse of London in turmoil as the movie seemed to end to quickly after the tunnel shot. It was a natural progression of destruction that finished the movie nicely and was also a good personal reminder of how to achieve such a shot as I haven’t done anything like that in years.
