Week Three

For week three, I had to use springs and constraints.

I chose to use a spring constraint. This allows you to connect one object to another by a virtual spring, as you move one or other object the connection stretches until the spring reaches full length and then it will pull the other object towards it, along with some inertial type motion to make it all feel quite natural. Great thing with the spring constraint is that you can add several targets, so your object might be connected to two or three objects, leaving it suspended between them.

I used a helix shape (as that reminded me most of a spring and was easiest to use/judge) and made it editable. I then connected the top of my “string” or “rope” to the top of my helix shape and worked out where the rope would fall and how long it would be when slack etc.  I could then apply spline dynamics and connect the bottom of the string to the ball object, allowing it to move such as shown below.
