Update Four

Now the scenes were set up and everything timed perfectly, we could begin adding the different textures. As we wanted a crazy abstract glitch style effect, I had the idea to cover the objects in animated materials (just gifs/jpeg sequences really, nothing fancy) which would save me a lot of time in post-processing having to add this stuff in. To start I found several glitch textures online in .gif format and could take these into After Effects to be rendered out as a jpeg sequences.

This could then be attached to a material in either the colour or luminance channel (we chose colour as luminance was killing the render with global illumination enabled) and then lobbed this onto our objects. You could tell the gif to loop itself, so when you played through the scene you have a glitchy texture on repeat.
